ITURI: DEPUTY NATIONAL COORDINATOR FOR OPERATIONS OF THE P-DDRCS ON A MONITORING MISSION IN THE PROVINCE

Friday, October 10, 2025 — Bunia, Ituri Province:
His Excellency Marie Chantal Lumba, the Deputy National Coordinator in charge of technical and operational issues for the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Programme (P-DDRCS), arrived in Bunia, the provincial capital of Ituri, as part of a field coordination mission.
Accompanied by her team, Ms. Lumba was warmly welcomed at Murongo Airport by Mr. Peter Nzima, the representative of the Acting Provincial Coordinator of the P-DDRCS.
This mission is part of the ongoing follow-up of disarmament and demobilization operations launched earlier this month in the province. It aims to assess the current progress of activities and to strengthen coordination among the various stakeholders involved in the peace process in Ituri. The visit will also include a gender-focused analysis to ensure inclusive participation in the DDRCS process.

Since the resumption of operations in early October, more than 100 ex-combatants—formerly affiliated with armed groups such as MAPI, Autodéfense, and CRP—have been demobilized and issued official demobilization cards. This brings the total number of demobilized individuals registered in Ituri to over 1,600 since January 2025.

The demobilization card grants access to reintegration and socioeconomic reinsertion projects implemented by the P-DDRCS and its partners, both for the ex-combatants and their host communities.
Meanwhile, disarmament and demobilization operations are continuing, leaving the door open for those still in the bush to follow in the footsteps of their peers who have chosen the path of peace and development—aligned with the vision of the President of the Republic, H.E. Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
