DRC: P-DDRCS STRENGTHENS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP WITH THE PEACEBUILDING FUND TO ACCELERATE STABILIZATION AND SUSTAINABLE PEACE
Kinshasa, March 27, 2026 — In line with the Presidential directive designating the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (P-DDRCS) as the top priority of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the 2025–2030 cycle, the National Coordinator, Professor Jean de Dieu Désiré NTANGA NTITA, received Ms. Sheilla Roman, Coordinator of the PBF Secretariat in the DRC.
This meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two institutions, in alignment with Ordinance No. 21/038, which establishes the P-DDRCS as the central framework for coordinating stabilization interventions nationwide. Discussions focused on reviewing ongoing projects, particularly in Tanganyika Province, and reaffirmed the need for rigorous monitoring and continuous evaluation.
The National Coordinator also highlighted the significance of the circular issued by the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Interior, calling on provincial governors to actively support the implementation of the P-DDRCS National Strategy. This directive aims to integrate disarmament and community recovery efforts into provincial governance, security, and social cohesion mechanisms.
In an innovative and integrated approach, Professor NTANGA NTITA underscored the critical role of mental health as a key driver of sustainable reintegration. He advocated for its systematic integration across PBF-supported projects, while reaffirming the Program’s commitment to durable reintegration of ex-combatants, grounded in national ownership and institutional coordination.
Ms. Sheilla Roman commended the strong partnership with the P-DDRCS and confirmed its role as a key institutional beneficiary of the PBF in the DRC. Discussions also covered progress on ongoing projects, particularly in Tanganyika through the UN consortium (UNICEF, FAO, ILO), as well as best practices in training, beneficiary orientation, and context-specific programming.
Synergies with UN Women and the finalization of an additional project in Maï-Ndombe were also highlighted. The National Coordinator emphasized the need for stronger partner alignment and enhanced capacity-building to maximize the impact of interventions.
