ITURI: SOCIAL GROUPS IN MAHAGI WELCOME THE INSTALLATION OF THE PEACE CONSULTATION FRAMEWORK IN SUPPORT OF THE DDRCS PROGRAM

Mahagi, November 2025. The territory of Mahagi has taken a decisive step forward in its journey toward lasting peace. This month, Mahagi officially established its Consultation Framework for Peace and Support to the P‑DDRCS (CCPAP), becoming the fifth territory in Ituri to install this strategic structure designed to strengthen the community anchoring of the national disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program. The initiative has been widely welcomed.

The installation ceremony, presided over by Nestor Balombo, Head of Studies and Documentation at P‑DDRCS, alongside Mr. Fidèle Dramani, expert in monitoring, evaluation, and conflict management, was marked by strong participation from local stakeholders. All social groups represented expressed a common sentiment: renewed hope for durable peace.
One participant declared: “For us, this is a feeling of satisfaction. Seeing such an activity take place here in Mahagi clearly shows that the Presidency also has its eyes on us. I invite the entire population to embrace this consultation framework for peace and to support the P‑DDRCS in resolving our problems.”
Local leaders believe that the presence of this framework at the territorial level will enable more direct citizen participation in conflict prevention, community dialogue, and consolidation of the program’s achievements.

Civil society has also expressed enthusiasm. Innocent Wabekudu, its president, emphasized: “Here in Mahagi, the P‑DDRCS truly responds to the needs of the population. Having such a mechanism strengthens our efforts for peace and social cohesion. As members of the framework, we welcomed its installation with great joy and commit to working hand in hand to restore peace in our territory.”
According to him, CCPAP will provide a permanent space where authorities, community actors, and partners can engage in dialogue, evaluation, and the design of solutions tailored to local realities.
Territorial Administrator Colonel Jacques Disanoa, also serving as CCPAP President, highlighted the symbolic and operational significance of the mechanism: “By accepting to chair this framework, I subscribe to a pact of commitment based on promoting genuine social cohesion and seeking sustainable solutions to conflicts.” He further stressed that the framework must become the local driver of the Head of State’s vision, aligning all interventions with the national P‑DDRCS strategy.

With the installation of this Consultation Framework, Mahagi enters a new dynamic where local communities now have a genuine space for dialogue, monitoring, and guidance of peace‑building actions. While expectations are high, the strong commitment of authorities, civil society, and community stakeholders suggests a promising future for reintegration and social cohesion initiatives.
