SOUTH KIVU: P-DDRCS HIGHLIGHTS THE COMMUNITY DIMENSION OF SECURITY GOVERNANCE IN UVIRA

The Provincial Coordination of the P-DDRCS South Kivu and its Uvira branch participated on Monday, 03 November 2025, in a validation workshop on the security sector governance diagnosis and its community impact in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Organized by Search for Common Ground, the workshop focused on presenting the findings of a comprehensive study and consultation conducted across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Tanganyika, and the city-province of Kinshasa, with a specific focus on security governance.
During the sessions held at Hotel Suzanne in Uvira, the P-DDRCS presented the community-based approach to security governance, aligning with the second pillar of the P-DDRCS National Strategy, which focuses on community recovery and stabilization.

The P-DDRCS South Kivu delegation was led by Acting Provincial Coordinator Odifax AKILIMALI, accompanied by Campos VEIKO BIZIBIRA, Deputy Head of the P-DDRCS Uvira territorial antenna. In his remarks, Mr. Akilimali emphasized that this strategic pillar seeks to strengthen community resilience, restore trust between populations and security institutions, and promote civic engagement in the management of peace and security issues at the local level.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including security officials, political and administrative authorities, provincial department heads, traditional leaders, youth and community members, as well as representatives from civil society organizations active in governance and peacebuilding.

These inclusive and constructive exchanges allowed for the intersection of institutional, community, and citizen perspectives, contributing to a shared understanding of security challenges and joint ownership of the recommendations made.
The participation of P-DDRCS in this workshop reflects its strong commitment to advancing sustainable peace not only in South Kivu but throughout the national territory. It also underscores the program’s role in facilitating the socio-economic reintegration of ex-combatants and the rehabilitation of the social fabric in conflict-affected areas.
