STABILITY IN EASTERN DRC: RESTORING STATE AUTHORITY IN UVIRA – P DDRCS TEAM MEETS URBAN LEADERSHIP

Uvira, South Kivu – A delegation from the National Program for Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization (P DDRCS) has been in Uvira since Monday, February 9, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and restore state authority in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Upon arrival, the team, led by Provincial Coordinator Grace Ngabo, held a meeting with the Acting Mayor of Uvira, Kifara Kapenda Kyk’y, to pay respects and discuss the objectives of their mission. “As a P DDRCS team, we are here to pave the way for the larger government delegation that will follow, in the framework of restoring state authority after the withdrawal of M23 rebels from Uvira,” explained Ms. Ngabo.

She emphasized the resilience of Uvira’s population, noting: “This is a resilient community, and it must continue to be so. Working together in cohesion is the only way to block the enemy. The more united we are, the less space the enemy will find in our communities.” She also expressed gratitude to President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi for his commitment in addressing the conflict imposed on the DRC.
The P DDRCS delegation outlined its priorities, which include supporting the restoration of state authority through multiple segments: the release and family reunification of children associated with armed groups, the promotion of democratic dialogue, and the establishment of the Provincial Peace Consultation Framework meeting. This framework will ensure community consultations to identify the real needs of the population and provide effective responses.
The visit marks a significant step in linking stabilization efforts with governance restoration, reinforcing the role of communication, dialogue, and community resilience in building lasting peace in Uvira and across eastern DRC.
