TANGANYIKA: P DDRCS AND CHILD DDR PARTNERS ASSESS PROGRESS AND PLAN ACTIONS FOR 2026

Under the auspices of the Provincial Coordination of the P DDRCS in Tanganyika, the first meeting of the Child DDR Technical Working Group for the 2026 cycle was held on Friday, 23 January, in the city of Kalemie.
On this occasion, state, technical, financial, and implementing partners of the Program were invited to participate. Discussions focused on the review of activities carried out by child protection actors regarding the release of children from armed groups and their reintegration during the 2024–2025 period, the priorities and perspectives for 2026, as well as the sharing and management of data related to children separated from armed groups.
Participants included UNICEF, AVREO, ACAD, TPO, Caritas Développement, and several other partner organizations.
During the meeting, it was revealed that 1,327 children, including 41% girls, were separated from armed groups between 2024 and 2025 and reunited with their respective communities. Among them, 500 children—representing some 50%—benefited from school reintegration.
Stakeholders highlighted several major challenges in implementing activities, notably the absence of a comprehensive reintegration package for all children released from armed groups.
For 2026, the P DDRCS, through Luther Bisongo and Florence Kikasa, respectively Heads of the Stabilization and EAFGA Sections, together with all partners present, agreed on the development of a Child DDR activity plan for the new year. This tool will also serve as a reference for financial partners in funding activities.
