TANGANYIKA: P-DDRCS CONCLUDES DISTRIBUTION OF FARMING TOOLS TO EX-COMBATANTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN MULANGE, KISALABA AND KASAMA
Kalemie, 19 December 2025 – The Programme for Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization (P-DDRCS) on Friday concluded the distribution of farming tools to former combatants and members of local communities in Tumbwe locality, located approximately 20 kilometers south of the city of Kalemie, in Tanganyika Province.
In total, 131 beneficiaries—including former combatants from the Bitonto, Ngoma Pasuka and Kilima armed groups, as well as community members from the villages of Mulange, Kisalaba and Kasama—received agricultural inputs.
This support enables beneficiaries to engage in agricultural activities aimed at fostering socio-economic recovery and ensuring sustainable reintegration within their communities.
Among the 131 beneficiaries, 37 women are from Kasama village, while 38 women are from the villages of Mulange and Kisalaba, reflecting the Programme’s commitment to inclusivity and gender-sensitive recovery efforts.
The distribution seeks to strengthen the productive capacities of beneficiaries and facilitate their social reintegration.
This activity forms part of the P-DDRCS pilot project known as “Tulime Pamoja” (“Let Us Cultivate Together”), a socio-economic reintegration initiative for former combatants implemented in the territories of Kalemie and Nyunzu.
Fully funded by the Congolese State for a duration of twelve months, the “Tulime Pamoja” project is designed to promote durable solutions in areas receiving demobilized individuals, as well as other citizens affected by forced displacement. The project also aims to reduce stigma associated with former affiliation to armed groups.
The approach adopted combines agricultural support with labour-intensive community works (HIMO), offering beneficiaries productive and income-generating activities. This strategy helps mitigate the risks of idleness while reinforcing socio-economic integration and community cohesion.
