TANGANYIKA: P-DDRCS DISTRIBUTES FARMING TOOLS TO EX-COMBATANTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN MULANGE AND KASAMA

Kalemie, 27 October 2025 — The Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (P-DDRCS) launched a farming tools distribution campaign on Sunday for 131 beneficiaries, including former combatants and community members. Among them, 37 women are from Kasama village, and 38 others are from the villages of Mulange and Kisalaba.

The beneficiaries are drawn from Mulange, Kasama, and Kisalaba, located in the Tumbwe Chiefdom, Kalemie Territory, Tanganyika Province.

The official launch of the distribution in Tumbwe was attended by several local dignitaries, including the representative of the paramount chief of the Tumbwe Chiefdom and various customary leaders. Their presence reflected strong local support for this peacebuilding and development initiative in Kalemie Territory.

This activity is part of the pilot project for the socio-economic reintegration of ex-combatants from the territories of Kalemie and Nyunzu, titled “TULIME PAMOJA” (Let’s Farm Together), initiated by the P-DDRCS. Agriculture, a vital sector in Tanganyika, serves as the central pillar for reintegration under this project. The initiative promotes short-cycle food and vegetable crops, aiming to ensure both food security and rapid income generation for participants.

The project was officially launched earlier this month in Tumbwe by the National Coordinator of the P-DDRCS, Professor Jean Désiré NTANGA NTITA, as a key contribution to stabilization and peace consolidation in a region long affected by armed conflict. The distribution of farming tool kits is intended to strengthen the productive capacity of beneficiaries and support their social reintegration.

Fully funded by the Congolese State for a period of 12 months, the “TULIME PAMOJA” project aligns with national strategies for durable solutions in return areas, targeting both demobilized individuals and communities affected by forced displacement. It also seeks to help dismantle the stigma associated with previous involvement in armed groups.

The approach combines agricultural support with labor-intensive community works (THIMO), providing beneficiaries with productive, income-generating activities that reduce the risk of idleness and strengthen socio-economic resilience. P-DDRCS Communication Unit
