DRC–EGYPT: P-DDRCS AND THE EMBASSY OF EGYPT EXPLORE NEW AVENUES OF COOPERATION FOR PEACE AND STABILIZATION
Kinshasa, August 12, 2026 — The Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (P-DDRCS) and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are exploring new avenues to strengthen cooperation in support of peace, stabilization, and the recovery of conflict-affected communities.
This shared ambition was at the center of discussions held Wednesday in Kinshasa between H.E. Professor Jean de Dieu Désiré NTANGA NTITA, PhD, National Coordinator of P-DDRCS, and H.E. Mr. Hesham Abdel Salam El Mekwad, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress achieved by P-DDRCS since its establishment in 2021, including growing community ownership of the Program and the voluntary engagement of members of armed groups seeking to transition away from violence. More than 6,000 beneficiaries have been registered through the process, highlighting both the scale of the challenge and the opportunities voluntary disarmament presents for advancing sustainable peace.
Looking ahead, discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation, including experience and knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the identification of initiatives of mutual interest that could support national efforts in disarmament, community recovery, and stabilization.
The engagement is part of P-DDRCS’s broader effort to diversify and deepen its strategic partnerships while promoting cooperation mechanisms that connect international partners more closely with operational realities, national priorities, and the needs of conflict-affected communities.
The dialogue between Professor NTANGA NTITA and Ambassador El Mekwad reflects a shared commitment to making cooperation a practical instrument for peace, community resilience, and long-term stabilization in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The envisaged establishment of a working group will provide a platform to deepen the dialogue, identify priority areas for engagement, and translate this shared vision into a practical, results-oriented framework for cooperation.
